How to Choose the Right Rivet

The blind rivet has many advantages. Choosing the right rivet can make your riveting even better

The following conditions shall be considered when selecting the correct rivet.

1.Drill hole size
The size of the drill hole is very important in riveting. Too small holes will make it difficult to insert the rivets. Too big holes will reduce shear and strength,It may also cause the rivet to riven loose, or the rivet is directly falling off, and it does not achieve the riveting effect. The best way is to drill the hole size in accordance with the data provided by the product directory.Avoid the burrs and the surrounding holes too big.

2.Rivet size
First, we need to select the diameter of the rivet according to the drilling size. Generally, it is 2.4mm, 3.2mm, 4mm, 4.8mm, 6.4mm (3/32,1/8,5/32,3/16,1/4 inch). Then we need to measure the total thickness of the riveted material, and the total thickness of the riveted object is the riveting range. Finally, corresponding to the correct diameter, the length of the rivet body is selected according to the thickness recommended by the riveting range. The diameter*the rivet body length is the size of the rivet.

3.Rivet strength
Firstly, determine the tensile and shear required by the riveted material. Then, according to the rivet diameter and length, refer to the "shear" and "tensile" in the blind rivet cataloge to select a suitable rivet product.

4.Rivet material
The fastening and riveting of pop rivets and riveted materials will affect the strength of the final product. As a rule, pop rivet materials shall have the same physical and mechanical properties as riveting products material. Due to use the different materials rivet, the difference may lead to the failure of riveting due to material fatigue or electrochemical corrosion.

5.Rivet head type
The pop rivet is a fastener that can apply shear resistance load to the joint interface.Dome head pop rivets(blind rivets) are suitable for most applications. However, when soft or brittle materials are fixed on a rigid material, the large flange head pop rivet should be considered, because it provides twice the supporting surface as common. If the surface of the product is required to be flat, the countersunk blind rivet should be selected.
